Food producers from across Ireland showcased the best in Irish food to over 10,000 chefs, restaurant owners and food buyers this week with the help of Brakes, one of Ireland’s largest foodservice providers.

The Lisburn-based company, which also has depots in Strabane, Dublin, Galway and Cork, attended CATEX 2015 at the RDS in Dublin where it hosted a number of its local suppliers, providing them with the opportunity to raise awareness of their products to key industry figures.

Suppliers including Manor Farm Fresh Poultry, ReadyChef Fruit and Vegetables, Keenan Seafood and Morelli’s Ice Cream exhibited their locally-produced food and took part in cooking demonstrations for CATEX guests.

The local suppliers were joined by TV’s Great British Menu star and former head chef at Corrigan’s Mayfair in London, Chris McGowan. Chris, originally from Ireland, wowed the audiences with his culinary skills learned from some of the restaurant industry’s most famous chefs.

CATEX attracts some of Europe’s leading figures from the foodservice and hospitality industries and Brakes used its substantial presence at the event to showcase some of the local produce it sources for use in Ireland and across Europe.

Brakes Ireland Sales Director Gareth Clements said: “Brakes exports over €80m worth of product to the UK & Europe every year and we used CATEX to provide some of our suppliers with the opportunity to showcase this product to leading industry figures.

“In our opinion, Irish produce is the best in the world and companies like Manor Farm, ReadyChef, Keenan Seafood and Morelli’s Ice Cream are just a few examples of organisations that use this produce to make truly world-class food that’s really worth shouting about.

“CATEX has been a very successful event for Brakes and our suppliers and I hope all visitors to the exhibition enjoyed a taste of the fantastic Irish food on offer.”

Award-winning chef Chris McGowan led the cooking demonstrations in the Brakes area during the event, and was joined by experts from Robinson’s Meats, Readychef and Keenan’s Seafood who showed off their skills in butchery and filleting fish.
