Clearbox Goes Gold!

We do lots of work across many different parts of Amazon’s business in the UK and Ireland, but at the heart of most of our campaigns is community. September is a big month for Amazon’s community programme in the UK and around the world, so we decided to do some similar activity ourselves in support of our client and our community. Alex has put together a few words about it, so pull up a pew and enjoy…

National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is an annual campaign held throughout September to promote the awareness of childhood cancer. 

Throughout the month, childhood cancer charities and various organisations hold fundraising drives and run campaigns to increase awareness of childhood cancer and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.

Research from Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group says more than 400,000 children around the world are diagnosed with paediatric cancer each year and it is the number one non-communicable disease causing the death of children around the world. 

Campaigns such as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month are making headway in fighting this devastating disease. According to research, in the 1960s, around 3 out of every 10 children with cancer were successfully treated but in the past 40 years, treatment for children with cancer has improved greatly and now more than 8 out of every 10 children diagnosed with cancer will live for at least 5 years. Most of these children will be cured.

At Clearbox we are incredibly proud of the work we do to support Amazon and its annual campaign: #AmazonGoesGold. 

For the past few years, Amazon has been raising awareness for Childhood Cancer Awareness month with special events to highlight the innovative work being done by hospitals and charities to increase the survival rate of children with cancer. 

Amazon team members from around the world host gold-themed #PJammin ® parties to show their support of local families affected by childhood cancer. The pyjama theme pays tribute to brave children with cancer, who can spend a long period of time living in their pyjamas during treatment and recovery. Gold is the international colour of childhood cancer awareness and many supporters choose to wear a gold ribbon throughout September.

Inspired by this movement, we decided to hold our own gold themed #PJammin® party to raise funds for our neighbours, the Children’s Cancer Unit. We all donned our finest jammies with slipper socks to match, and got to work, raising £300 for the charity. 

We are very pleased to support the Children’s Cancer Unit and the fantastic work the charity does for children across Northern Ireland. It is the only place in our country where children can receive specialist treatment for cancer. The charity is part of a global network which facilitates crucial clinical trials with the objective of improving survival rates, and the quality of that survival, for children affected by cancer.
