EDDIE ‘THE EAGLE’ EDWARDS LANDS IN BELFAST

THE SKI-JUMPING OLYMPIAN LAUNCHES WE ARE VERTIGO’S SKI SEASON

LEGENDARY ski jumper, Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards soared into town over the weekend to launch We Are Vertigo’s 2016/17 Ski Season. The South Belfast ski and adventure centre celebrated the launch of peak season as ski instructors prepare to welcome an influx of snow-bound holiday makers keen to perfect their technique ahead of a trip to the slopes.

Eddie, who flew into our hearts in the 1988 Winter Olympics, met with adoring fans and fellow winter sport enthusiasts at We Are Vertigo’s Ski Centre where he talked of his journey to Calgary and how aspiring sports stars should follow their dreams ‘no matter what.’

We Are Vertigo launched as Northern Ireland’s only indoor ski centre in 2013 and is a favourite amongst novice and advanced skiers alike due to the two indoor endless slopes which have been credited with improving muscle memory and even teaching complete beginners how to parallel in less than an hour.

The hugely popular Ski Centre also boasts great travel packages to some of the Europe’s leading ski resorts plus a fully equipped ski shop with the latest ski equipment and winter wear from brands such as The North Face and Dare2B.

Eddie the Eagle was on top form as he vaulted into the Newtownbreda Ski Centre:

“I loved being in Belfast to help launch We Are Vertigo’s Ski Season. I caught the skiing bug when I was on a school trip at the age of 13 but if I’d a place nearby that offered the training and opportunities that We Are Vertigo presents, I would have been glued to the place!

“Traditionally, we’re not really a winter region but I think that ski centres like this are creating opportunities for Team GB and Team Ireland to change that and compete with some of the world’s most accomplished winter athletes. I’d thoroughly recommend getting down for a lesson or two to see if you catch the bug too – it could change your life!”

Lorna Murphy from We are Vertigo added:

“Everyone at the Centre was incredibly excited to welcome Eddie to We are Vertigo. Our team is  passionate about snow sports so we wanted to bring a true Winter Olympics legend on board to help us launch into Ski Season.

“What we love about Eddie is that he was a plasterer from Cheltenham who had the desire and determination to pursue the sport he loves whilst overcoming critics to become a legend in his own right. We are firm believers that skiing and snowboarding can be enjoyed by everyone, at any level and our team of instructors and endless ski slopes can help prepare even the most novice of skiers for a winter break.

“As school groups, first time skiers and those who are a bit out of practice prepare for Ski Season, we’d invite everyone to pop in to Vertigo and have a chat to our experienced team who will ensure our visitors are ready for the slopes as soon as they hit the mountain.”
