Lockdown Diaries #1: Disney+
Posted on March 30, 2020
It’s fair to say that we’re a pretty close team here at Clearbox.
We’re now into our third week of working remotely, but we’re still managing to catch up every day via the medium of Zoom (other video calling services are available).
We were chatting last week and someone suggested that we should replace the chats we have in the office for much of the day with a blog post. The subject is anything you fancy writing about. Something you love. Something you’re thinking about during the lockdown. Anything really.
We wanted to see what was on the mind of our team during the lockdown and the range of subjects that came back was as varied as the conversations in our office usually are.
Our blog posts spark lots of conversation in the office, so we guess it’s another way to try and bring us closer together. That’s nice, isn’t it?
Every day this week, we’ll have a different post from a different member of the team.
First up is Mollie. Mollie is a Junior Account Executive at Clearbox and works on our Bushmills, Boyzlife and Amazon teams. She absolutely loves the gym, the Mummy Diaries, an M&S salad and…it would seem…Disney. Take it away, MM.
We are all living in a very strange time at the moment, with lots of us feeling very restless with our lack of freedom. It’s time to find new ways to entertain ourselves and our families indoors!
As I’m sure many of you will agree, boredom is at an all-time high. With days seeming much longer, with working from home, working out at home and eating at home; only leaving for one daily bout of exercise.
Trying to combat the boredom is a positive step to getting through the next few weeks or months. As much as we don’t want to watch TV all day long, it is undeniable that screen viewing time has increased to combat the extra time we have on our hands. I personally have exhausted the list of movies and shows on Amazon Prime, Netflix and iPlayer, and the continuous re-runs on TV are getting monotonous.
So, after Disney+ launched in Ireland last week, I decided to sign up to strip it back to basics and to re-watch the classics - Hannah Montana and Sweet Life of Zach and Cody. It has given my TV watching a new lease of life and something to look forward to after a day of work, when we switch from the desk chair to the sofa.
Disney Channel was a permanent fixture in our house in the noughties, so I was very excited to catch up with Raven and Hannah Montana after so much time had passed. I was pleasantly surprised with the wide range of things to watch from documentaries to The Parent Trap. Disney+ is definitely not just for kids, there’s something for everyone.
As well as all my old favourites, there were also films that I had forgotten about but were absolute bangers back in the day. For example - Sister Act- what a film. Movies that you watch, and it feels like the very first time you are watching again! It has even managed to get the whole family together to reminisce on all our favourite shows.
After you’ve made your way through the nostalgic components, Disney+ has many a documentary to choose from. Who doesn’t love to learn a fun fact while watching! The Titanic 20 Years Later and Miracle Landing on the Hudson are top of my list.
Overall, I think Disney+ is a welcome addition to the online streaming services market, as well as launching at an accidental opportune time, it genuinely seems to provide a lot of great quality TV. It has definitely launched at the perfect time! And it’s available on Fire TV. Dream.
It’s also a nice time to be reminded of old characters and TV programmes that bring back that lovely feeling of nostalgia during uncertain times. Even some of the jokes I didn’t understand when I was younger are actually providing a lot of entertainment.
Disney+ will definitely be getting me through isolation 2020 & is a positive we can rely on for hours to come during the next weeks and months.
Stay safe & stay positive everyone x
