It’s Monday. It’s grey. It’s grim. Fear not, because we have some Monday music recommendations to give your day a lift. Here’s what we’re listening to right now…
Listening to: Digital (Did You Tell) – Stone Sour
Bit of a breakaway from my usual Brian Fallon/Ryan Adams choices, but this is a cracking tune. Really heavy riffs and Corey Taylor’s vocals on all the Stone Sour stuff show just how good a singer he is. It was either this or a Boomtown Rats song. Tough choice.
Listening to: Marvin Gaye – Ain’t No Mountain High Enough
You can’t beat a bit of Monday Motown and what better way to kick off the week than with this classic? If you’re suffering from the Monday slump then stick some MG on Spotify and turn the volume right up. Good vibrations guaranteed.
Listening to: Oasis – The Fame
My team (Arsenal) has suffered from its ‘every season for 13 years’ meltdown so I need something a bit uplifting today to drag me out of the shambolic defending-induced funk I find myself in. The Fame by Oasis is the track for the job. It came out a million years ago as a b-side and can be found today on the remastered version of Be Here Now, the most underrated of all the Oasis albums. It’s probably in my ‘top 10 Oasis tracks of all time’ list. It’s better than Wonderwall and the band’s other overrated songs that everyone seems to love.
Listening to: BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs podcast from yesterday – Rugby Union referee, Nigel Owens
I find the programme so interesting and love the insight it gives into the lives of the eclectic mix of celebrities on each week. It’s a Monday morning ritual for me now – to-do list, hot tea and headphones in.
Listening to:Diana Ross’ I’m Coming Out
This is the perfect combo – an irresistible beat and motivational lyrics. Tried and tested, I can guarantee this golden oldie has the goods to help anyone dance away a miserable Monday morning.
Listening to: Loyle Carner – The Isle of Arran
Loyle Carner is my latest obsession. Since coming across his new album I’ve been listening to it on repeat, and but this song is definitely the stand out favourite. Its chilled and catchy, and I love the gospel choir backing. Great if you’re looking for something easy going to bop along to.
Listening to: Destiny’s Child – Survivor
I’ve recently rediscovered Destiny’s Child’s Survivor. This song and the album it comes from are perfect for getting me through blustery, rainy, pre-Starbucks school runs. If anyone can help me survive a busy Monday, it’s Destiny’s Child.
