A Fairy Brown Christmas

Christmas 2015

We’re lucky to have worked with the fantastic O’Carroll family on a few Mrs Brown’s Boys projects over the years, but none have been as daring as this one…

To celebrate the launch of How Now Mrs Brown Cow on DVD, the family asked us to come up with an idea to get the people of Dublin (and the media) talking about the new release. They hinted that we might even be able to get access to some of the cast, should we need it.

We approached the family with our idea - to put Rory Brown (aka actor and voice of Gogglebox Ireland, Rory Cowan) in a pink tutu and put him on top of the tree on O’Connell Street.

A week went by and then we got word that Rory was up for it, so we set about making a 10ft pink tutu, created a giant golden star and hired a cherry picker.

On the day of the stunt, we faced rain and 20mph winds but Rory was an absolute star and scaled the top of the tree, accompanied by a Clearbox photographer. A few safer shots on the ground with some Agnes Brown themed goodies wrapped the job and Rory headed off to star in the Christmas tree light switch-on, which we basically blagged him in to on the day.

Multiple mentions of the DVD to the crowd of thousands at the switch-on, loads of social chat about the stunt and print, broadcast and online coverage that mentioned the DVD meant this Christmas fairytale had a very happy ending. That’s nice!
