A sweet tribute to Northern Ireland

Summer 2016

It’s the summer of 2016 and Northern Ireland is gripped by football fever. The men’s national senior team has qualified for the European Championships at the same time as our favourite ice cream brand, Morelli’s, asks us to come up with a clever campaign to sell a lorry load of ice cream. 

We did what we do here at Clearbox and came up with an idea that was eye-catching, fun and, most importantly, topical and newsworthy. 

Using the football buzz as a hook, we created a giant mosaic of Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis. But this wasn’t just any old mosaic. 

Made from ice cream toppings, the giant mosaic was created in Steven’s primary school near Ballymena. Better still, the pupils at the school joined in the mosaic fun. 

The end result was an amazing piece of art that hit the headlines across the UK. TV, radio, web and print picked it up and every single piece of coverage mentioned the brand behind the stunt - Morelli’s. Our social content that we created also went down a treat, with our video attracting more than 50,000 organic views in the first 24 hours. 

Better still, Morelli’s reported a 26% uplift in ice cream sales in the week following our stunt.
