Warcraft: The Beginning

May 2016

Warcraft: The Beginning is the movie based on the global gaming phenomenon, Warcraft. The hugely successful video game was translated on to the big screen by renowned director Duncan Jones and the Universal Pictures team tasked us with driving ticket sales for the film by immersing Irish filmgoers in the world of Warcraft.

The thing that struck us about the film was the environments - how visually striking the worlds looked. With this in mind, we wanted to bring a scene from the film to the streets of Dublin to stop traffic and immerse people in the film’s stunning scenery.

Tapping into the ever popular trend of street art, we worked with one of Ireland’s leading street artists, Solus, to take over a street in Temple Bar and paint one of the film’s worlds on a giant wall to engage the public.

We should mention here that this wasn’t just any old piece of graffiti. Playing on the gaming theme, we engaged Irish YouTube and social gaming stars to get involved in the action by coming down to the event and helping Solus create the artwork. Joining them was a Clearbox film crew and selected press to complete the line-up.

What followed was an incredibly engaging event that brought Warcraft: The Beginning to the streets of Dublin and transported the press, public and gamers into the themes of the movie. Social chat and press coverage galore helped Warcraft: The Beginning to soar up the Irish Box Office charts while creating a new piece of art in Temple Bar.
